US Ambassador to Ankara, Jeff Flake, was summoned to the State Department and asked to explain US Chief of Staff Mark Milley’s visit to northeastern Syria.
According to information from diplomatic sources, Ambassador Flake was summoned to the State Department in connection with Milley’s visit to northeast Syria on March 4.
Flake was asked for clarification on the visit in question.
Milley had visited regions in northern Syria occupied by the YPG/PKK terror organization.
Speaking to the AA correspondent, US Joint Chiefs of Staff spokesman Colonel Dave Butler said: “General Milley visited northern Syria to meet with (US) commanders and military units. He was provided with up-to-date information on mission to fight ISIS, examined violence protection measures, and visited Hol refugee camp. evaluated efforts to repatriate refugees.” made a statement.
